Synopsis

The Loft Movie Theatre is proud to present Ridley Scott's 1982 futuristic film noir, BLADE RUNNER.

Los Angeles, 2019: A dystopian city of 106 million people; a sprawling metropolis peppered with neon and fire, where the shadows of industrial skyscrapers loom up through the glittering rain.

Former police officer Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) is summoned by his old boss to resume his job as a Blade Runner in order to urgently hunt down and "retire" a group of highly sophisticated and dangerous Replicants (manufactured androids marketed as 'more human than human') who have just escaped from an off-world colony and are hidden amongst the general population.

Deckard is reluctant in his assignment, but when introduced to Rachael (Sean Young) a unique and beautiful Replicant who believes she is human, her pursuance of the truth draws their worlds together, and he finds himself falling in love.

With Vangelis' atmospheric soundtrack mixing the classical and the synthesised (mirroring the central theme of man's relationship with machines), impeccable practical effects evoking a dark yet magical world, and inspired costume design combining 1940s style with the fashion of the future, Blade Runner is a film that deserves to be seen on the big screen.

Based on Philip K. Dick's 1968 novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, Ridley Scott's 'future noir' has been seen as seven different versions to date. The Loft Movie Theatre is proud to present "The Final Cut" - the version of the film which best represents Scott's original vision.
